Aiiimation of Htuman Figures in Conversation and Action
نویسنده
چکیده
Viable articulated computer-graphic representations of the human figure have recently been developed by O'Rourke, Zeltzer, and others. In this work, a figure implemented by Maxwell provides the starting point for the development of tools for controlling the movement and action of figures in a simulated threedimensional environment. The figure's representational quality is improved for the purpose of animation, and its capabilities are extended to allow multiple figures to follow arbitrary paths, with posture and movement determined by any combination of key-frames, body-tracking, and algorithmic movement description. Objects in the figure's visual environment are designed using a program for computer graphic sculpture. A sophisticated computer sound synthesis system was implemented and provided the basis for a script-driven multiprocess approach to specifying the interactions of multiple figures in a changing environment. The resulting system, incorporating figures in an animated visual environment with coordinated sound, may be considered as a vehicle for realizing "electronic cinema". While the animation scripts essentially define a specialized non-procedural programming language, knowledge of a general (procedural) computer language is not required, and figure animations have been realized by artists and filmmakers having no previous background in threedimensional computer graphics. Coordinating Beliefs in Conversation
We show that participants in conversation develop beliefs about shared information that others do not. So-called directors talked with two partners in succession (A and B) to arrange unusual figures. Directors went from long, indefinite descriptions of the figures to short, definite references as common ground was built up with A. When B had been a silent side participant in the fast conversati...
متن کاملVocabulary Lists for EAP and Conversation Students
Despite the abundance of research investigating general and academic vocabularies and developing dozens of word lists, few studies have compared academic vocabulary with general service word lists such as conversation vocabulary. Many EAP researchers assume that university students need to know all the words in West’s (1953) General Service List (GSL) as a prerequisite to academic words (e.g., ...
متن کاملThe Comparative Effect of Using Idioms in Conversation and Paragraph Writing on EFL Learners’ Idiom Learning
This study investigated the comparative effect of teaching idiomatic expressions through practicing them in conversation and paragraph writing on intermediate EFL learners’ idiom learning. The participants were sorted out of a population of 134 intermediate students in Zabansara Language School in Khorramabad based on their scores on a Preliminary English Test (PET) and an idiom test piloted in...
متن کاملSignificant Attributes of Conversation Analysis in Social Interviews
This paper aimed at manifesting the role of significant attributes of conversation analysis in social interviews from a functional perspective. In this paper the concern would be on how these attributes of conversation analysis acted as important elements in analyzing the interviews. In particular, the author discussed some samples of B.B.C learning English interviews which considered some conv...
متن کاملA Comparison between Three Methods of Language Sampling: Freeplay, Narrative Speech and Conversation
Objectives: The spontaneous language sample analysis is an important part of the language assessment protocol. Language samples give us useful information about how children use language in the natural situations of daily life. The purpose of this study was to compare Conversation, Freeplay, and narrative speech in aspects of Mean Length of Utterance (MLU), Type-token ratio (TTR), and the numbe...
